FileCloud 9.0 Features
FileCloud now supports encryption at rest with site specific encryption keys, two-factor authentication (2FA), file locking, recycle bin support for network shares, real time network share sync, and improved multi-tenant site management support. As always, we have addressed most of our customer requests and we believe the 9.0 release will improve FileCloud security and enhance the end user experience significantly.
Encryption at Rest
FileCloud now supports Encryption at rest for Managed Local Storage. File encryption supported by FileCloud secures files even in case of unauthorized access on the server.
Encryption is managed either by a system managed key or an admin provided passphrase (at server start-up) for the ultimate in security and for the most demanding of environments. Multi-Tenant sites can each have separate security keys allowing Managed Service Providers to offer a compelling solution to businesses without compromising privacy.
Encryption uses symmetric cryptography, therefore the encryption/decryption process is very fast and controls are provided to switch an existing FileCloud system to use encryption seamlessly. After encryption is enabled, new files uploaded will be encrypted automatically and decrypted during download or previews.

Two Factor Authentication (2FA)
In today's world, usernames and passwords alone are not sufficient to protect an account. Two factor authentication (2FA) is a security process that allows access to secure resources when by means of two means of identification. In addition to username and passwords, an additional verification code will be required to complete the login process.
Logging in via web browsers, mobile apps (Android, iOS) will require a verification code to be sent to their registered email ID associated with their account. Currently, note 2FA login is not available from FileCloud Sync or FileCloud Drive apps.
Two factor policies policies can be enabled or disabled at a global level or at an individual user level. Support for more two factor authentication methods is planned in our future roadmap (SMS delivery, Google Authenticator etc)
FileCloud always supported recycle bin (for storing deleted files) for files in managed storage. Version 9.0 extends this feature to work with network folders. Deleted files from network shares are stored in the recycle bin and can be viewed and restored. This provides additional controls for the FileCloud admin to safeguard from accidental file deletion.
FileCloud administrators can enable or disable this feature through the admin interface. If needed, to free up space, all deleted files in a specific network share can be fully cleared by the admin.
File Locking
In order to avoid inadvertent changes to files and folders when being actively modified by one person in a collaborative environment, files and folders can be explicitly "locked". Locking indicates that a user is actively working on it and access is restricted to modifications (or even reading) by other users to whom the file is shared till the file is unlocked. The locking feature prevents conflicts and needing to merge changes from two users into the same document.
In FileCloud, access restrictions such as read permissions, lock expiration can be set when the file or folder is locked. Administrators can override the locks created by the user.
Network share files are synced offline using a scheduled time (every 30 minutes, 1 hour etc). It is now possible to sync network share files in real-time using a more faster and efficient mechanism as files change. This requires the FileCloud helper service which needs to be enabled on the server side which monitors network folders for changes.
Not only does this feature implement faster sync, it is also more efficient when working with large network folders with thousands of files and folders. Single file changes can be propagated faster to many clients quickly without each client traversing all folders.
Improved Multi-Tenant Site Control
FileCloud 9.0 makes it easy for service providers to manage their sites with a site level max storage quota as well as site level user quota. Total quota limit for a site ensures that the used quota for that site does not exceed the total quota limit set by the multi-site admin. The total user limit ensures that the total users in a site does not exceed the total user limit set by the multi-site admin.
It is now also possible to create new sites by duplicating settings from an existing site. This allows you to roll out a site quickly. The multi-site dashboard also shows in a glance the users and storage used for each site.
Additionally, 9.0 comes with a number of other upgrades such as FileCloud Sync App support for ReadyNAS (Beta), improved notification support for downloads and uploads to public shares and much more.
