“FileCloud makes it easy to access and share large files among employees.”

-Philippe, Director of Information

Background

Productions J is among the most prominent producers of entertainment in Quebec, and Canada. Since 2000, Productions J, and its 80 employees, have developed expertise in many areas of the entertainment industry including: television, live events, DVDs, artist management, and music production.

Over the years the company has worked with numerous international entertainers such as: Celine Dion, Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga, Lionel Richie, Mika, Bryan Adams, Jason Mraz, James Taylor, and Stromae. Productions J’s live events have been among the most successful, and highest grossing in North America.

Challenge

Because the company’s employees travel extensively to work on various projects, they need to access large files, typically music and video, from remote locations. This puts a strain on the company’s network. Accessing files via a web interface is the preferred method since the company’s VPN struggles to work at times.

For production houses, using a solution such as Dropbox or Google Drive to put its intellectual property, video or music, in the public cloud is risky. If the content gets leaked or lost, the company’s entire business will be at risk. So ProductionsJ preference is to find a robust, self-hosted file sync and share system that can handle large media files. (Compare Dropbox vs FileCloud and learn why FileCloud is the leader among self-hosted alternatives to Dropbox).

Solution

After evaluating Dropbox and Accellion, Productions J decided that FileCloud best suited its needs.

“I wanted to keep existing NTFS permission and FileCloud achieves that. With FileCloud, we no longer need to configure the VPN, and our users can now access their files via a web browser on their Mac or mobile device. FileCloud makes it easy to access and share large files among employees,” says Philippe Daoust, Productions J’s director of information.
