The ability to change the storage quota for users through Policies is available in FileCloud Server version 17.3 and later.

Administrators can manage the storage space allotted to a user account or a group of users through Policies.

  • Use the Global Default Policy to set a quota for all user accounts
  • Use a custom policy to set a quota for a specific user or for a select group of users

Set a Quota for a Specific User


 View a user's storage quota

You can view a list of all the policies for a user to determine:

  • which policies a user belongs to
  • calculate an appropriate storage size for this user based on the policies they belong to


To view the storage quota for a specific user:

  1. Open a browser and log in to the Admin Portal.
  2. From the left navigation pane, click Users.
  3. On the Users screen, click the user whose quota you want to view, and then click the edit button ().
  4. On the User Details screen, click Manage Policy.
  5. On the User Policy screen, all the Policies that this user belongs to are listed under Policy Name.
  6. To calculate an appropriate storage size, click Calculate.
  7. If you made any changes, click Save.
 Create a Custom Policy for one user

If you need to change the storage quota for a particular user, you can edit their current policy settings or create a new policy.



To create a new policy for a specific user:

  1. Open a browser and log in to the Admin Portal.
  2. From the left navigation pane, click Settings.
  3. On the Manage Settings screen, click New Policy.
  4. On the New Policy dialog box, type in the user's account name or a name for the policy, and then click Create.
  5. On the Manage Settings screen, click the policy you just created, and then click the edit button ().
  6. On the Policy Settings screen, on the General tab, type in the storage quota in User Storage Quota.
  7. Click Save.
  8. From the left navigation pane, click Users.
  9. On the Users screen, click the user who you want to add to the new policy, and then click the edit button ().
  10. On the User Details screen, click Manage Policy.
  11. On the User Policy screen, click Select.
  12. On the Policy List page, select the policy you created for this user, and then click Select.
  13. On the User Policy screen, click Close.
  14. On the User Details screen, click Save.


Set a Quota for a Group of Users


 Edit the Global Policy


To Increase the storage quota for all users:

  1. Open a browser and log in to the Admin Portal.
  2. From the left navigation pane, click Settings.
  3. On the Manage Settings screen, click Global Default policy, and then click the edit button ().
  4. On the Policy Settings screen, select the General tab.
  5. On the General tab, enter the new value in User Storage Quota in GB.
  6. Click Save.
 Create a Custom Policy to set the quota for a group of users

There already exists a policy for all user accounts in your FileCloud network called the Global Default Policy.

If you need to change the quota for a custom group of users, you can create a custom policy.

To create a group and custom policy: 

  1. Open a browser and log on the Admin Portal.
  2. On the left control panel, click on Groups
  3. Click the Add Group button.
  4. Type in the name of the group.
  5. To save your changes, click Update.
  6. From the left navigation pane, click Settings.
  7. On the Manage Settings screen, click New Policy.
  8. On the New Policy dialog box, type in the group name or a name for the policy, and then click Create.
  9. On the Manage Settings screen, click the policy you just created, and then click the edit button ().
  10. On the Policy Settings screen, on the General tab, type in the storage quota in User Storage Quota.
  11. Click Save.
  12. From the left navigation pane, click Groups.
  13. On the Groups screen, click the group who you want to add to the new policy, and then click the edit button ().
  14. On the Group Details screen, click Group Policy.
  15. On the Group Policy screen, click Select.
  16. On the Policy List page, select the policy you created for this group, and then click Select.
  17. On the Group Policy screen, click Close.
  18. On the Group Details screen, click Save.
